Located approximately 1 hour 45 minutes from Bangor, this hike is quintessential Maine - featuring woods, waters, and gorgeous views of the West Branch of the Pleasant River as it tumbles over numerous waterfalls. This jaw-dropping spot is sometimes called the Grand Canyon of Maine, and for good reason.

There are multiple options for hiking, with distances of an 8 mile loop or 8.6 mile loop, depending on your starting point. This is a moderately challenging trail, and one option features a river that needs to be forded, but if you're up for it, it makes for a beautiful day trip and adventure through the woods. For a shorter hike, a trail to Screw Auger Falls starts near the beginning of this trail, offering a less challenging 3.5 mile round trip hike.

A modest entrance fee of $11/person over 18 is required at the gate. To add more adventure to your trip, camping is available.
